Industry Style | The metropolitan design in steel, wood and terracotta |
Furnishing an open space following an industry style became very trendy in the last years. The open space refers to the loft concept, a type of city apartment born in the 90s. These houses have naturally the values related to the furnishing industry style, since they practically area readjustment in the residential version of old factories. |
The economic crisis from recent years contributed in some ways to spread the philosophy of reconverting spaces. They didn’t disappear but on the contrary, from abandoned warehouses as a consequence of the economic hurricane of the last decade, they let live something else. Life returns through new forms. The industry style has stylish and well-rounded characteristics; the surfaces are often left rough, such as the reinforced concrete roofs and the air conditioning and water systems which are left on sight, as typical for the London warehouses or the docks of Copenhagen and Berlin. An apartment in industry style always has furniture in steel and untreated wood. Moreover, the lighting of industrial style plays a key role, with lamps that recall those of old warehouses. Reinforced concrete often left on sight, solid wood, bricks and external steel claddings are materials that we often see walking through Shoreditch, perhaps near the brick lane or in some very hipster co-working space in Northern Europe. Obviously, to have a successful result, extended spaces and arranged apartments in a single room without partitions are needed. Moreover, in the open spaces of the industry style, the windows, are wide and luminous and have the frames in steel, with uprights and crosspieces. It is fundamental that the choice of furnishing elements is simple and functional. That’s a necessary feature to give a touch of industrial style to the home. The essential design and the geometric and squared lines of sofas and tables is indeed a sign of distinguished recognition. In addition, colors are neutral such as white, gray and of course the steel natural shade, wrought iron or waxed corten which combine perfectly. The set-up of raised platforms is a very used practice by those who restructure old warehouses or convert them into homes with industrial design. These are frequently used as bedrooms or small study rooms, and are accessible by steel or wood staircases, having the function of recovering the vast space in height that these buildings offer. The common thread of these spaces is the combination of modern and vintage objects that recall a time that doesn’t exist anymore. This is a must. Recreating such an environment is not easy. Let's remind ourselves of the importance of small detailsin order to mark that perfect harmony between past and present. An old record player, a steel lamp or an old youth bicycle, perhaps hanging from a brick wall, represent a small element and a solution for a perfect and refined industry style. |
